Review Of Acer Iconia Lightning

Acer, a well known brand in laptop and desktop market has seriously started to give some competition in the tablet market. A market where Apple still has the largest chunk and also the presence of big names like Kindle Fire, Samsung Galaxy tab, Asus Transformer etc, it is really going to be hard for Acer to make a mark.

Acer entered the tablet market with the infamous A 501 and now it is trying to make its presence felt with the latest A510/A511 model. The Acer 510 is a considerable improvement on A501 and comes with the following upgrades-

1. At 259.1 x 175.3 x 10.2 mm and 680g, it is much smaller and lighter than A501 which was 260 x 177 x 13.3 mm and 777g. However it is still heavier than many other tablets like Asus Transformer Prime and the new iPad.

2. It comes with the latest Tegra 3 processor and a much better 9800 mAh battery. There are other minute improvement too in the hardware and software so let us check the features in detail.

Data and Display

The Acer Iconia Lightning is available in two variants- A510 with only Wi-Fi and A511 with Wi-Fi and 3G. It comes with a large 10.1 inch capacitive touch screen. The screen is brilliant and is at par with most of the high end tablets. It has a resolution of 1280 X 800 pixels and 16 million colors which is the same as the Asus Transformer Prime but nowhere near the new iPad.

Memory and Processor

The A510 comes with 32 GB internal memory (presently there is no choice in memory) and 1GB RAM. It supports micro SD and supports external memory up to 32 GB. The Acer A510 has a built in Android v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and has a 1.3 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor which is the fastest among tablets. It scores against iPad for the external memory slot. Also the processor speed is quite fast and is nearly the same as Transformer Prime (which also comes with Nvidia tegra) and iPad (Maybe a tad slower than iPad).

Camera And Talktime

It comes with a decent 5MP camera with autofocus and HD video shooting at 720 pixels. Also it has a secondary camera of 1MP for video conferencing. The battery life is quite high and is expected to last for 15 hours during constant use as it has a whooping 9800 mAh battery.

The camera is inferior to both the new iPad as well as the Transformer Prime but the battery is much better than Transformer Prime and only slightly less than the new iPad.

Conclusion-

The Acer Iconia Lightning is definitely worth the money and provides some of the best features in tablets. Also other good points about this tablet are that it comes with mini USB adapter to connect across various external devices. The audio quality is great and it is also comparatively cheaper than the Transformer Prime and the new iPad.
