Cons: The user needs to be more advanced and get familiar with this software to take full advantage of it, although the great GUI interface of this software will make any task easier to perform.

Verdict: All in all, I had a pretty good experience using this file recovery program. Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery software successfully recovered more than 3 TB of data from an unrecognized external hard drive.  Overview

As you can see in the figure below, the Home screen is equipped with all the options from which you can choose any desired option, such as Drive Recovery, CD DVD Recovery, Photo Recovery and RAID Recovery.

Home screen

Let’s get familiar with the features of this software.

Data Recovery

The first tab, placed at the top left corner of the home screen menu, contains four submenus which I would like to explain separately.

Drive Recovery:

Drive Recovery

The Drive Recovery wizard is intended to recover lost or deleted data as well as the missing or lost hard drive partitions. Click on any partition from which your data was deleted. Then choose from the recovery methods that appear in the right pane, which opens automatically after selecting the desired drive. Once you understand the operations of each method, you will be able to get the desired data back quickly and hassle-free.

Quick Recovery: This wizard will start a standard scan and list existing as well deleted files and folders. This is a fast recovery method. It works well and previews the files in the Windows directory structure.

Quick Recovery

You can categorize the search using the three tabs in the left window.

Classic Tree: Simply list data currently existing on both the hard drive and deleted drive.

File Type List: List deleted files according to their types in a separate folder.

Filtered Tree: Enter the desired file type extension using a *.* command, such as *.jpg*, *.txt*, etc., to search for any particular deleted files.

Deleted Recovery: Search and recover deleted data from any specific location.

Advance Recovery: It doesn’t matter whether the file system is FAT or NTFS; the software can restore files from both. This option also helps to recover data from a file system that has been changed from FAT to NTFS, or vice versa. Choose the required file system format before pressing the Advance Recovery button.

RAW Recovery: Speedy yet effective method of regaining any specific type of deleted files. RAW recovery performs a signature-based recovery method if the desired file cannot be detected by the Quick Recovery or Deleted Recovery options.

CD/DVD Recovery:

Before using this option, insert any problem optical disc in the CD ROM, after which the software presents options to recover lost or inaccessible data from damaged CD, DVD, HD DVD, Blue Ray Disc, etc.

Photo Recovery:

Photo Recovery

With the help of this option, you can recover photos and other multimedia documents from hard drive partitions or any removable media, such as flash drive, pen drive, USB, etc. Select the desired drive and click on Start Scan, after which the software will categorize the different types of multimedia files in separate folders, such as png, jpg, mpeg, etc. This option is also equipped with a File Types tab to search for any specific file types.

RAID Recovery:

Raid Recovery

Reconstruct or rebuild corrupted RAID 5 arrays using this all-in-one software. Recovering RAID data needs different parameters such as parity bit order, block size, parity delay, proper disk order information, and so on. But remembering the various parameters is difficult, and if you enter the wrong order or parameters, you will be prevented from recovering data from a RAID-configured hard drive. This problem is solved in Stellar Phoenix Windows RAID Recovery Software. Just choose the “Don’t Know” option from the drop-down menu and RAID recovery options will automatically show you the results.

Recovery from Image:

If you are on-the-go or don’t have enough time to completely scan the hard drive and recover data, simply abort the process and save an image of the scanned data. Later, start the recovery using the saved image information, as highlighted in the image below. Taking an image of the complete hard drive data can be beneficial in case of a physical or mechanical hard drive failure.

Advance Option:

Advance Option is an added function that the user can get with this software at no extra cost. Advance Option enables users to stay ahead of any data loss conditions and stay informed about the current hard drive conditions.

Let me explain each of the options of this menu.

Advanced Options

Create Image: Allows you to choose any specific range hard drive space and create an image. Alternatively, you can create an image of the entire hard drive, which requires similar or more storage space than the image of the drive you are creating. The image file you have created using this software saves in “.imp” format and can be used to recover hard drive data in case of a hard drive failure, virus or malware attack, Windows corruption, etc.

Clone Drive: An efficient way to create an exact replica of an entire disk which can be used to restore lost or damaged files. There should be a source disk to clone and a destination hard disk which will be used to save the cloned data. It is advisable to have a hard drive of equal or greater storage space than the source drive.

Drive Status: An amazing tool that checks the current hard drive status and reports any problems to the administrator, commonly known as S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology). This tool can help you forecast just about any kind of future failure that can occur as well as advise you to take proper precautions so that you can extend or prevent any data loss conditions from occurring.
