Happy 23rd Anniversary, Windows!!

Where were you in ‘85?

Yes, it was November 23rd, 1985 when Windows 1.0 first shipped.  The first version of Windows I had experience with was 3.0.  It came on five or six 3.5” diskettes, the last one being printer drivers, if memory serves.

Here’s an article from ‘Engineering Windows 7’ blog that discusses the evolution of the Windows Taskbar from Windows 1.0 to Windows 7. It’s a little on the technical side, but you may find some facts of interest to you.

Another post here looks back at the history of Windows on the eve of the release of Vista. Lots of screen shots of past Windows versions, too.
