  5. This is a really helpful resource. As anyone who has ever had their computer crash (which at this point should be almost everyone) can confirm, it is an awful feeling when you realize all your work is gone and you haven’t yet backed it up. That is why backing up your data is absolutely essential. Don’t wait until its too late! These online backup services are great because you can access them anywhere, so you don’t have to worry about something bad happening to your external hard drive.

Dunno why Carbonite isn’t in the list. Been using them for a few years and they’re less expensive at $59/year with a discount for pre-payment.

    Hi,
you have mentioned good online backup site,it will be nice if it be free of cost
    Thanks

  11. Backing up your data is essential for any computer user, and if you don’t own an external hard drive, these services are really great. The main thing that prevents me from using one of these sites is the monthly fee. I understand why they have it, and it’s not really that expensive, but its preventing me from using them.

  12. WoW…This is a really helpful resource.these service are really good to backup your data for any personal computer.good work.

  13. This is a great list! Thanks for sharing this. But personally, I’d prefer an offline backup server, as it’s more secure, in my point of view. Call me traditional or something, but yes, I’d prefer that way.

i’ve been looking into offsite backups, so was interested to see what were the 3 I should know about. i know about all three.

my next post will be my notes from more research, started w/ the webpage linked.

i checked out MyPC Backup. you have to set up an acct and download/install some software, both painless.

pretty easy to use control pgm, not the best, but ok. the free acct only lets you upload 15MB! ok, it’s a trial. after i uploaded a bunch of test files, i received 3 emails welcoming me and encouraging me to upgrade. two more tests – how to delete files from their backup [if i no longer need them] and how to download a backed up file.

    * delete – can only delete files and only ONE at a time. cannot delete folders. not very intuitive.
    * download – it’s essentially a browsers “save link as”. good cos you can download the file to anywhere, bad cos it should remember where it came from.

so, based on that, i decided against it.
went to the website, edit my profile, and delete my acct. pretty easy.
not one, but two pages asking me to reconsider deleting my acct. No, i’m out of here.
then when i uninstalled the pgm on my computer, the unistall process launched my browser to a page offering me 10GB of online storage for $1 [didnt say for how long].

i have about 130-150GB, so that’s not worth it.

bottom line, basic but not even feature middle-income.
    not for me.

    wait for my notes.
