Understanding The Basics Before Purchasing A Printer

For some people purchasing a new printer can be a very complicated problem. This is mainly due to the amount of different types that are available. No matter if you are purchasing for home or for a small business because of the variety that is now available it can be quite difficult to understand which type is going to be perfect for you. There are now very special printers available which are intended for specific needs.

At first many people simply purchased a printer to print, if that makes sense. Nowadays they are designed to be used in very particular areas. For example photo printing, documentation, design and of course many other needs. If you are considering purchasing a new printer you need to first make sure that you understand on the most overlooked issues which is cost of ownership. Many manufacturers offer us consumers products at very reasonable prices and they produce specialized in cartridges that can only be used with that specific printer which must be purchased from the manufacturer. This is where the cost of owning a printer and start to adopt especially when you are purchasing ink cartridges. This is just one thing that you need to consider before making any type of purchase.

Inkjet printers - these are probably the most commonly used at home, and small businesses. They generally offer excellent printing capabilities where you are using black-and-white or you prepare high-quality high-resolution color by using an inkjet photo printer. These vary in price from entry-level models which are cheap and do not cost too much to people with a higher budget that might want to print on A2 paper.

Multifunction printers – again these are ideal for home office and for small businesses as the name suggests they come with a number of functions. They can be used as a fax machine, scanner, copier and printer. Ideally, these will be used by somebody who will only print occasionally I would not be recommended if you need mass document printing. Again the price of these can vary from entry-level to hire and models which offer better print quality. One of the main drawbacks is because this is an all in one machine if you have any problems you have just shot a printer but all the other functions it can do.

Laser printers – these are traditionally one of the best solutions for businesses that have heavy office users. Generally, they only print in black and white but do offer high quality. They have a low running costs and over the past couple of years we have seen major price drops in purchasing these.

There are many other different types of printers from dotmatrix to label printers and everything in between. If you are considering purchasing a new office or home printer you need to ensure that you do some research before doing so. As I have mentioned already cost of ownership is important to understand. Many manufacturers offer printers at vastly reduced prices which upfront may look quite interesting. It’s important to check the prices of replenishing cartridges before jumping into making a purchase. Also make sure that you do some competitor analysis to ensure that you are getting the best value. This is a very competitive market and lots of people trying to get your business this is a good thing for us consumers because we are able to purchase products at all really good prices because of this.
