In Windows XP systems, there is this Compressed (zipped) Folder feature using which you can compress large files and folders in a single ZIP file. By compressing these files, one can save enormous amount of space on the hard disk. Also, such arrangement makes it easier to send files to our contacts over the Internet, which can then be unzipped using some compression tool such as WinZip.
However, at times these files may get corrupt thereby making all the data it contains vulnerable. Such scenarios can occur due to various issues such as virus infections, interruptions while downloading the ZIP file, CRC errors, unreliable Internet connections, etc.
In such cases, you should try to resolve the problem by downloading it again or by trying any other method. However, if you are unable to repair the same file then you should use a third-party ZIP repair software to do the needful.
Consider a scenario wherein you download a zipped file by clicking on a hyperlink on a Web page. When you try to extract the ZIP file, it fails to extract. An error message is displayed as a result, that is:
“The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted.”
Cause:
The root cause of this problem is that the hyperlink uses either an ASP (Active Server Page) or CGI (Common Gateway Interface) file. Because of this, Internet Explorer does not save the files at the Temporary Internet Files folder location on the hard disk.
Resolution:
To resolve this problem, you should download the file again by making the following adjustments:
Click the hyperlink, and click ‘Save’ in the File Download dialog box.
Select a location to save the file, and click ‘Save’.
Open the ZIP file after it is downloaded, and extract the zipped files.
However, if you do not have Internet connections or if the problem is persisting then you should use a third-party ZIP recovery software to repair.ZIP file. Such read-only tools use fast yet sophisticated scanning algorithms to ensure safe ZIP repair.
