Having been a regular user of Uniblue’s SpeedUpMyPC (SUMP)and RegistryBooster (RB) for some time, I was quite anxious to try out a copy of their newest product, PowerSuite 2010 which combines SUMP, RB and Driver Scanner in one nice, neat interface.
Let’s take a closer look at this application that will help your PC to run smoothly and hopefully, error-free.
First of all, I had to uninstall my existing copies of SUMP2010 and RB2010 before installing PS2010. Both products uninstalled easily enough, and I did a system restart.
Installation of PS2010 was easy enough and then I was presented with this screen:
I accepted the defaults and clicked ‘Next’ at which point the main PS2010 interface was presented:
Notice the red arrows. Since I had SUMP and RB installed previously, the latest results of those two products appear while Driver Scanner proceeds to scan my laptop for drivers. I really like this interface; it is not cluttered or intimidating and gives one a lot of information at a glance, such as registry errors cleaned, application versions, as well as a link to the online help manual, just to name a few.
Turning my attention to Driver Scanner’s results, it found that my built-in wireless adapter’s driver was ‘ancient’ and that there was an update available:
I allowed DS to download and install the driver for me, which took about minute altogether.
Once my adapter reconnected, I found that my browser page loads appeared to increase in speed somewhat, although I have no way to quantify it. They did appear to load with a little more ‘snap’ however, so I was pleased with the results of PS2010 already! A feature I like about DS is that it will tell you if a driver is safe to install, or perhaps involves some risk due to that particular driver version being reported as unstable. In that case, you are likely better off leaving well enough alone, unless you are already having problems with that driver.
Since I have review both SUMP and RB previously on WindowsTalk, I will not go into detail about them here, since they are basically the same programs integrated into a common interface in PowerSuite2010. However, after running new scans, all was reported as ‘sunny’ on my laptop (see red circles):
Uniblue has put a lot of work into this excellent program that I have found is quite safe to use. As always, use any program that modifies Windows settings with caution. In most cases, PS2010 will create a system restore point and backup the registry before making changes, but setting your own restore points as well as regular backups of your data is, as always, strongly encouraged.
Give PowerSuite2010 a look today. I highly recommend it.
NOTE: For a limited time you can get PS2010 for $59.95:
