Oops! Backup Mini-Review and Discount Offer

By James

I must admit that when I first heard about Oops! Backup, I was not enchanted with the name, but when the CEO of Altaro.com contacted me to do a review of Oops! I thought I had better look into it. All I could find were impressive reviews, so I loaded up my complimentary copy to see what all the fuss was about.

First off, Oops! Backup is not a full backup program. What I mean by that is Oops! does not create disk images like AcronisTrue Image Home for example.

How does Oops! Backup work?

Oops! will simply backup your most important files: email, Documents folder, etc to another drive, preferably an external drive. I am using a 4GB USB key to store my Oops! Backup files and it is sufficient for the files and folders I have to Oops! to monitor. Which is another nice feature of Oops!: the ability to select which folders you want to backup and ignore those that do not matter.

For instance, I keep all my documents including pictures and music files on a separate partition from Windows, so it is already one step removed from a potential operating system crash. Then, I regularly backup those files to my ioSafe external hard drive (see my ioSafe review here).

Now with Oops! Backup installed and a USB key, I can not only keep regular backups of my documents, but I can also go ‘back in time’ to retrieve previous versions should the need arise. This is very handy since I use a laptop as my main PC; I don’t have to be tied to an external drive!

Let’s have a look at some Oops! Backup screen shots I took (click image to enlarge):

So you can see how simple Oops! Backup is to setup and use. This is the type of backup program Windows should have by default. Altaro has done a great job of making the user interface clean, unobtrusive and easy to use. Aunt Minnie and Uncle Fred should have Oops! Backup on their PC.

I have not even touched on all the aspects of this fine program here. You should download the free trial and check Oops! Backup out for yourself:

Oops! Backup runs on Windows XP (32-bit) and 32 & 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7.
