No Email in Windows 7?

As more and more folks upgrade to Windows 7, or purchase a new PC with Windows 7 pre-installed, one of the first things they may notice is that there is no default email program like Windows Mail that came with Vista, or Outlook Express that came with XP and previous Windows versions.

Search as you might, you will not find one. :)

For Windows 7, Microsoft decided not to include a ‘weak’ email client (program), but to provide a free download to Windows Live Mail, a superior program that is fully functional for most needs and is easy to use.

You can combine all your email accounts in one place – Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! and more. And now Windows Live Mail has a calendar, too. Mail combines the ease of use of Outlook Express, with the speed of Windows Live.

You can download Windows Live Mail here: http://download.live.com/

While you are there, grab some other Live programs like Messenger, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker and Family Safety, just to name a few. All fully integrate with Windows 7, and you can use them in Vista and XP, too!

I am very surprised that you are singing the praises of Windows Live without mentioning the fact that it is web based and emails are not stored on your own computer and cannot be accessed when you are off line.

Why use Windows live in preference to any other webmail, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, GMail etc?

Dot, Windows Live is not web-based. Windows Live Hotmail is, but the article is dealing with the Windows Live Mail program, which one can download and install on their PC. It stores downloaded messages on the user’s PC.

  2. It was pretty weak anyways it wont be missed. Windows 7 has plenty of other features to make up for the lack of their mail client.

just bought new computer with windows 7. Not the least bit impressed. Loved XP. Why does microsoft continuely taqke a product that works and manufactures something else that does not provide the need of the purchasing customer? I wish someother company would take the good things from previous software and put it into one well working system.
